An American Christmas: Alpine Edition

QUADRO Weihnachtshaus

Imagine a quintessential American Christmas...A house and garage lavishly decorated and adorned with a dazzling array of multicolored lights. A snowman, with a carrot nose, snug scarf, and a black top hat, stands sentinel by the window, peering into the homely scene: the family huddled around the kitchen table while Dad whips up a batch of fresh, steaming waffles. Mom guides visiting friends and their kids through the Christmas-themed movie theater room, which shimmers with silver garlands. The festooned Christmas tree nestled in a corner patiently awaits the presents. Stockings hang expectantly, and nutcrackers stand in neat formation. The fireplace crackles with a warm and inviting glow, as if Santa himself has settled in for the evening. But hold on!

We're not in America at all. We're in Switzerland. More precisely, in Graubünden, where Dillon resides with his family and wants to share the American Christmas tradition with his children. To do so, he constructed an entire Christmas house. From QUADRO, no less. Intriguing, isn't it?

Kinder-Tischecke

Living near Disneyland in California for many years and frequenting it often, Dillon found inspiration for his festive creation. He knew QUADRO was the perfect building material for his project, though it required meticulous planning. Thus, he began as early as July. Over time, he had amassed quite a collection of building kits, plus some used parts here and there - basically anything he could get his hands on, including individual parts dating back to the early '80s. However, he was short on a few specific parts that were yet unavailable in Switzerland, like short tubes for couch feet in the theater room or the stairs leading up to the Christmas cottage's upper floor. He reached out to us, and we were more than happy to supply the necessary parts - just like his kids, Sophia and Francis, we were excited to see the final outcome.

The result? A spacious Christmas House that can comfortably house four adults and four kids. Sure, if one of the adults happens to be two meters tall, they might need to duck their head a bit, but everyone else can stand tall in the basement.

The children are overjoyed, scampering about inside the house, playing with their friends in the various nooks, stepping onto the balcony, and dashing down the stairs to run out again. In the evenings, they huddle together as a family in the movie loft, enjoying festive films - Dillon only brings out the TV during the Christmas season to keep the shared viewing experience special. The house is filled to the brim with tech, including an audio surround system for an immersive cinematic experience, cleverly concealed behind the garlands.

The checkered floor in the kitchen, reinforced with additional QUADRO pipes, is designed to accommodate as many people as possible. The entrance door, however, is just one panel wide.

"I built it for the kids!" Dillon declares with a chuckle to his adult visitors. The little ones certainly seem to be enjoying it.

Growing up, Dillon had played with something akin to QUADRO, but it had a significant issue: it kept collapsing when he tried to climb on it. Awkward, to say the least. That's why he's so appreciative of discovering the original QUADRO - it's sturdy and durable, as the old pipes and plates from his collection testify.

Dillon is thrilled to have instilled a slice of American tradition in his new Swiss home. He knew his children would be captivated. It also softens his longing for the bustling cities of Los Angeles and San Diego.

We at QUADRO wish all our blog readers, all families, and all children a delightful Christmas: gifts that brighten eyes, mouth-watering food, crisp winter walks in the fresh air, and a multitude of wonderful experiences with your loved ones.

Merry Christmas everyone!
